Job Title: Summer Intern
Work Hours: 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
Location: 831 U.S. Highway 42 NE, London, Ohio 43140
Employment Type: Seasonal
Reports to: Program Administrator
Salary: $15 - $20/hour, depending on experience
Job Summary: The intern will help the District with outreach and education. The intern will prepare and distribute educational materials at outreach events to connect landowners, developers, and the general public to the resources they need to improve soil health and conserve their natural resources. The intern will help maintain the rain garden and provide education about the benefits of pollinators and rain gardens. The intern will visit farms, check out conservation practices, assist with nutrient management plans, and attend trainings. Program ends September 19th (through Farm Science Review), which is negotiable depending on individual circumstances. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Create displays and distribute materials at public events and workshops to raise awareness and educate the public about recommendations for conservation
• Assist staff with inventory & evaluations, surveys, and construction inspections of best management practices in the field
• Assist staff with voluntary nutrient management plans and implementation documentation
• Update website and social media with news and information
• Answer the phone and take messages
• Research and compile data for the SWCD Business Plan update
• Attend monthly board meetings
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Experience/Training/Education:
• Attending High School or High School Graduate
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Proficient computer skills
• Excellent English communication skills both verbal and written
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Office and field working environments
Machines/Equipment/Tools Used:
• The use of some equipment for field work that weighs 60lbs or less
• Office tools: printers, telephones, photocopier, etc.
Physical Requirements:
• Able to walk on uneven ground
Professional Expectations:
• Be professional at all times through quality of work, punctuality, attendance, and attitude.
• Shall keep an accurate record of the actual hours worked. Some evenings and weekends hours may be required.
• Maintains a daily log of activities and contacts.
• Display the initiative and ability to learn knowledge of the field.
